Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Illinois Alzheimer's and dementia CE requirement?

Illinois Public Act 102-0399 (codified at 20 ILCS 2105/2105-365) requires a 1-hour continuing education course on the diagnosis, treatment, and care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and other dementias for each license renewal period. The requirement applies to a wide range of Illinois-licensed healthcare professionals who work with adults age 26 or older in their practice. The 2026 Illinois renewal deadline is May 31, 2026. This ANCC-accredited course satisfies the full requirement.

Does this requirement apply to me if I do not specialize in dementia care or work primarily with older adults?

It applies to most Illinois healthcare professionals. The requirement is triggered if your practice includes adults age 26 or older — not just those who specialize in dementia or geriatric care. Because adults 26 and older are present in the vast majority of clinical settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, emergency departments, and primary care, this requirement applies to most Illinois-licensed nurses, physicians, PTs, OTs, social workers, and other covered professionals. The narrow exception is practices exclusively serving patients 25 and younger, such as pediatric-only settings. If you are unsure, confirm with IDFPR or your licensing board.

Does this 1-hour course count toward my total 20 CE hours required for Illinois RN renewal?

Yes — and it can also double-count toward other requirements. Per 20 ILCS 2105/2105-365, any training on Alzheimer's disease and other dementias applied to meet any state licensure requirement may also count toward other CE requirements under that same section. This means the 1 hour counts toward your total 20-hour renewal requirement and can simultaneously satisfy the Alzheimer's mandate. You are not required to complete 20 hours plus a separate 1 hour — it is included within the 20. This double-counting provision is written directly into Illinois law.

I am an Illinois pharmacist. Does this course satisfy my requirement and does it report to NABP?

This course satisfies the Illinois Alzheimer's CE requirement for pharmacists, but it does not report to the NABP CPE Monitor. Illinois-licensed pharmacists are responsible for retaining their certificate of completion and self-reporting CE as required by IDFPR. Download and store your certificate immediately upon completing the course. Do not rely on automatic NABP reporting — it will not occur for this course.

Where can Illinois nurses, physicians, social workers, and allied health professionals get the required 1-hour Alzheimer's and dementia CE?

ANCC-accredited Provider P0557, IDFPR compliant, 100% online with instant certificate download. The 2026 Illinois renewal deadline is May 31, 2026.
