  • Done in 4 courses: Complete your entire 20-hour renewal requirement in just four courses. No piecing together individual CE — everything is bundled and ready to go.

What’s Included in This 20-Hour Package

Four courses covering both Texas BON mandatory topics plus 16 hours of high-quality, clinically relevant elective CE — enough to satisfy the full 20-hour requirement for RN and LVN renewal:

Texas Nursing Ethics & Jurisprudence (2 Hours – Required every 6 years / every 3rd renewal)
Texas Geriatric Care CE for Nurses (2 Hours – Required for nurses caring for older adults)
Heart Failure Management (6 Hours – 2 Pharmacology Hours • Elective CE)
The Obesity Epidemic & Nutrition (10 Hours – Elective CE)

Total: 20 Contact Hours • 4 Courses – Covers both Texas BON-mandated targeted topics plus enough elective CE to complete the full 20-hour biennial requirement for Texas RNs and LVNs.

Human Trafficking Prevention – Free From the State of Texas

Texas requires all nurses who provide direct patient care to complete an approved Human Trafficking Prevention course every two years. This course is provided at no cost by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and does not need to be purchased.

Access the free Texas Human Trafficking Prevention course here. Complete before your renewal date and keep your certificate on file.

What About the Forensic Evidence Collection Requirement?

Texas requires 2 hours of Forensic Evidence Collection CE only for nurses who work in an emergency department setting, and it is a one-time requirement — not every renewal cycle. If you work in the ED and still need to fulfill this one-time requirement, it is not included in this package. Contact us if you need help locating this course separately.

Texas BON CE Requirements This Package Covers

Texas RNs and LVNs who renew via continuing education must complete 20 contact hours every two-year cycle, including specific mandatory targeted topics. This package addresses each one:

1. General Continuing Education

Required under Texas Board Rule 216.3. RNs and LVNs must complete 20 contact hours of continuing nursing education in the nurse’s area of practice each two-year licensing period. This package provides all 20 hours.

20 Hours • Every 2 years • This package = all 20

2. Nursing Jurisprudence & Ethics

Required under Texas Board Rule 216.3(g). Two contact hours relating to nursing jurisprudence and nursing ethics before the end of every third two-year licensing period (every 6 years). Covers the Texas Nursing Practice Act, BON rules, BON position statements, principles of nursing ethics, and professional boundaries. It is included here so you have it when your cycle comes due — completing it early simply counts toward your 20-hour total.

2 Hours • Required every 6 years

3. Older Adult / Geriatric Care

Required under Texas Board Rule 216.3(h). Two contact hours relating to older adult or geriatric populations, required for nurses whose practice includes those populations. If older adult care is not part of your practice, the hours still count toward your general 20-hour total.

2 Hours • Required if working with geriatric population

4. Human Trafficking Prevention

Required under Texas Board Rule 216.3 and Texas Health & Safety Code. Required every renewal for nurses who provide direct patient care. This course is provided free of charge through the Texas HHS Commission Learning Portal and is not included in this package.

Free from Texas HHS • Required every renewal • Not included — it’s free

5. Forensic Evidence Collection

Required under Texas Board rules for nurses who work in an emergency department setting only. This is a one-time 2-hour requirement — not every renewal cycle — and is not included in this package. If you work in the ED and need it, contact us and we can point you to the right resource.

2 Hours • One-time • ER nurses only • Not included

Alternate compliance path: Texas nurses may also satisfy the 20-hour CE requirement by achieving, maintaining, or renewing a Board-approved national nursing certification in their area of practice. If you renew that way and hold prescriptive authority as an APRN, see our Texas NP & APRN Mandatory CE Package instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many CE hours do Texas RNs and LVNs need to renew their nursing license?

Texas RNs and LVNs must complete 20 contact hours of continuing nursing education every two-year renewal period. This package covers all 20 hours in four courses, including both commonly required mandatory topics — Nursing Ethics and Jurisprudence and Geriatric Care.

Does this package cover everything I need for Texas RN or LVN license renewal?

Yes, for the vast majority of Texas nurses. This package covers all 20 required contact hours including both Texas BON-mandated topics. The one exception is the Human Trafficking Prevention course — Texas law requires it every renewal cycle, but the Texas Health and Human Services Commission provides it free of charge, so we do not include it here. We link you directly to the free Texas HHS portal. The Forensic Evidence Collection course is also not included because it is a one-time requirement for emergency department nurses only — if that applies to you, contact us.

Do I need to complete Ethics and Jurisprudence every renewal cycle?

No — only every third renewal cycle, which is every 6 years. Texas BON requires 2 hours of Nursing Jurisprudence and Ethics before the end of every third two-year licensing period. It is included in this package so you have it when your cycle comes due. Completing it early does not hurt you — it simply counts toward your 20-hour total for this renewal period.

Is there an alternative to completing 20 CE hours for Texas license renewal?

Yes. Texas nurses may satisfy the 20-hour CE requirement by achieving, maintaining, or renewing a Board-approved national nursing certification in their area of practice within the licensing period. If you hold or are pursuing a national certification such as ANCC board certification, verify with the Texas BON whether it satisfies your renewal requirement. For most nurses, completing 20 CE hours is the simpler path.

Does the Texas BON accept online CE courses from ANCC-accredited providers?

Yes. The Texas Board of Nursing accepts online continuing education from ANCC-accredited providers. Renew Now CE holds full ANCC accreditation (Provider P0557) with IPCE status, covering nursing and 15+ other license types. All four courses in this package are 100% online, self-paced, and mobile-friendly. No test is required — complete the course content and self-evaluation to earn your instant certificate.

I need to submit my CE certificates to the Texas BON at renewal?

Yes. Under Senate Bill 912 (89th Legislative Session), nurses upload all required CE certificates in the Texas Nurse Portal before renewing. Beginning September 1, 2026, nurses will need to upload all required Continuing Education (CE) certificates prior to renewing their license. This is a result of Senate Bill 912, passed during the 89th Legislative Session. Development and testing are underway to make this as smooth as possible for nurses. Where can Texas RNs and LVNs get all 20 hours of required CE for license renewal in one package?

Renew Now CE offers a 20-hour Texas Nursing CE Renewal Package for RNs and LVNs ($49) that includes all four courses needed to satisfy the full biennial renewal requirement — Texas Nursing Ethics and Jurisprudence (2 hours), Geriatric Care (2 hours), Heart Failure Management (6 hours), and The Obesity Epidemic and Nutrition (10 hours). ANCC-accredited (P0557), Texas BON accepted, 100% online with instant certificate download. No subscription required.

What if I don't pass the post-test on my first attempt?

No problem — you have unlimited attempts on every post-test at no extra charge. Review the material at your own pace and retake the assessment as many times as you need. There is no penalty, and your progress is always saved. Once you pass, your certificate downloads instantly.

Is there a money-back guarantee?

Yes — 30 days, no questions asked. If you are not completely satisfied with the quality of our content within 30 days of purchase, contact us for a full refund. We are confident in the quality of our courses, but your satisfaction is guaranteed.
