Renewing an RN or LPN license? You may not need this.

Wisconsin does not require continuing education for RN or LPN license renewal. The 16-hour requirement applies only to advanced practice nurse prescribers. If you are buying CE for employer policy, specialty certification, or professional development, that is a different purchase — and we would rather tell you than sell you hours the state does not ask for.

Package Overview

This package is built for Wisconsin Advanced Practice Nurse Prescribers (APNPs) to complete the full biennial pharmacology continuing education requirement in one purchase.

Meets the requirement as written: 16 contact hours in clinical pharmacology or therapeutics relevant to your area of practice, including at least 2 hours in responsible prescribing of controlled substances.

Wisconsin APNP CE Requirements

  • Renewal Date: September 30 of each even-numbered year
  • Current Biennium: October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2026
  • Required Hours: 16 contact hours in clinical pharmacology or therapeutics — there is no general hour category
  • Mandatory Component: Minimum 2 hours in responsible prescribing of controlled substances
  • Practice Relevance: Content must be relevant to your area of practice
  • National Certification: Required in addition to the 16 hours — neither substitutes for the other
  • Recordkeeping: Retain certificates a minimum of four years under N 8.05(3), available to the Board on request

Note on the APRN Compact: Wisconsin belongs to the Nurse Licensure Compact for RN and LPN licenses but has not enacted the APRN Compact. An APNP licensed in a compact state cannot practice in Wisconsin under a multistate privilege — a Wisconsin-issued APNP credential is required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this package satisfy my complete Wisconsin APNP CE requirement?

Partially — it satisfies the pharmacology portion. Wisconsin APNPs must complete 45 total CE hours for biennial license renewal. Of those, 16 hours must be in clinical pharmacology or therapeutics relevant to your area of practice, including a minimum of 2 hours on responsible prescribing of controlled substances. This package covers those 16 pharmacology hours. You will need additional CE hours in other clinical topics to reach the 45-hour total.

Is the 2-hour controlled substances prescribing course included?

Yes. The mandatory 2-hour controlled substances and pain management component is included in the Pain & Symptom Management course. Your certificate will clearly document the 2-hour controlled substances prescribing content for Wisconsin APNP renewal records.

When is the Wisconsin APNP renewal period?

Wisconsin APNPs renew on a biennial cycle from October 1 of an even year through September 30 of the following even year. CE must be completed within the biennium. Always verify your specific renewal deadline with the Wisconsin Board of Nursing before submitting.

Is Renew Now CE accepted by the Wisconsin Board of Nursing?

Yes. Renew Now CE is an ANCC Accredited Provider (Provider Number P0557). The Wisconsin Board of Nursing accepts CE from ANCC-accredited providers toward the pharmacology and therapeutics requirement for APNP renewal.

Will I receive certificates showing my pharmacology hours?

Yes. You receive a separate certificate for each of the four courses upon completion. Certificates clearly indicate the pharmacology contact hours earned for each course, including documentation of the 2-hour controlled substance prescribing content — all required for Wisconsin APNP renewal audit documentation.

Do I have to complete all 16 hours at once?

No. All courses are fully self-paced and your progress saves automatically. Complete one course this week and the next another time — there is no requirement to complete them consecutively. Most learners complete the full 16 hours across two to three sessions.

How quickly can I get my CE certificates?

Instantly. Upon completing each course and passing its assessment, your Certificate of Completion is immediately available for download. No waiting period, no manual processing.

What are the four courses included and how many hours is each?

The package includes: Cannabis Pharmacology (3 hours), Ketamine & Treatment-Resistant Depression (1 hour), Pain & Symptom Management — Responsible Prescribing of Controlled Substances (2 hours, required), and Core Pharmacology — Common Primary Care & Med-Surg Medications (10 hours). Total: 16 pharmacology contact hours.

What if I don't pass the post-test on my first attempt?

No problem — you have unlimited attempts on every post-test at no extra charge. Review the material at your own pace and retake the assessment as many times as you need. There is no penalty, and your progress is always saved. Once you pass, your certificate downloads instantly.

Is there a money-back guarantee?

Yes — 30 days, no questions asked. If you are not completely satisfied with the quality of our content within 30 days of purchase, contact us for a full refund. We are confident in the quality of our courses, but your satisfaction is guaranteed.
