Michigan RN License Renewal and CE Requirements

Easily Renew Your Michigan Nursing License: Continuing Education Made Simple

As a busy Michigan nurse facing the demands of a healthcare system under strain, you need straightforward information on your 2025 license renewal requirements. Don’t let confusion over continuing education (CE) requirements hold you back!

Michigan RN License Renewal CE Requirements for 2025:

Plan your Mi RN CE Learning:

  1. The Michigan Board of Nursing limits you to completing no more than 12 continuing education units in any 24-hour period.
  2. Make sure you allocate sufficient time—typically a minimum of three days—to meet your CE requirements for renewal.

Key Information for your Michigan RN 2025 License Renewal:

  • Grace Period for Renewal: If you miss your renewal deadline, take advantage of a 60-day grace period to renew your license without navigating the relicensure process.

What Happens If You Miss the Renewal Deadline?

If you fail to renew your license on time, you have 60 days to complete the process, but an additional $20 late fee will apply. If you do not renew during this period, you’ll face the relicensure process, which requires proof of completed CE and fees ranging from $70 to $100.

Additional Renewal Information:

  • Immediate Practice Requirements: You cannot practice nursing with an expired license—doing so may result in penalties.
  • Documentation for CE Completion: Keep your CE completion records for at least four years. While you won’t submit proof during renewal, the Board conducts random audits where selected nurses must provide evidence of CE completion.

How to Verify Your Michigan Nursing License Renewal is Complete:

Once you submit your Michigan nursing license renewal application, you can verify that the renewal is complete through the MiPLUS portal. It typically takes about 24 hours for verification to appear after submitting your application. Here’s how you can check:

  • Log in to the MiPLUS portal and navigate to the ‘Home’ tab.
  • Select the ‘My Records’ subtab to view your licensing information.
  • Confirm that a new expiration date is listed next to your license information.

You can also complete a nursing license lookup on the Michigan license verification page for additional confirmation.

Mississippi NP License Renewal and CE Requirements

MS Nurse Practitioner License Renewal Made Easy: A Complete Guide to CE Requirements

Renewing your Mississippi NP license doesn’t have to be complicated. Understanding the Mississippi NP license renewal and CE requirements ensures compliance with state and national standards while maintaining your professional credentials. This guide simplifies the process, highlighting key requirements for controlled substance CE hours and national certification renewal.

Mississippi NP License Renewal and CE Requirements

Mississippi Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are required to meet specific continuing education (CE) criteria during each renewal cycle. This includes completing at least five (5) CE hours focused on controlled substances. These hours must be obtained within the State Certification Period, which spans January 1 of odd-numbered years to December 31 of even-numbered years (e.g., 01/01/2023–12/31/2024).

Mississippi APRN Controlled Substances CE Hours

All Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) in Mississippi must complete the five controlled substance CE hours, even if they do not have prescribing authority for controlled substances.

Solution:
You can fulfill this requirement easily with Renew Now CE’s accredited course on Abused Medications. This course is specifically designed to meet Mississippi Board of Nursing requirements. Additionally, Renew Now CE:

  • Automatically reports completed CE hours to CE Broker.
  • Is an approved provider by the Mississippi Board of Nursing (Provider ID 20-18921).

Featured Course:

National Certification and ANCC CE Requirements

Mississippi NPs must also maintain their national board certification, including meeting CE requirements set by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

ANCC Renewal CE Requirements for NPs:

75 total CE hours every five years, including:

  • 25 pharmacology CE hours.

Finding accredited courses to fulfill these requirements can be challenging. Renew Now CE simplifies the process with its comprehensive 25-Hour ANCC-Accredited Pharmacology CE Package, which satisfies both Mississippi state and ANCC requirements.

Package Highlights:

  • Includes the required five controlled substance CE hours.
  • Fully online and convenient for busy NPs.
  • Automatically reported to CE Broker.

Audit Compliance for Mississippi APRNs

Mississippi NPs should be prepared for periodic audits by the Board of Nursing. If selected for an audit, NPs must provide documentation such as certificates or transcripts within 10 business days. Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action.

For additional details on audit compliance and other renewal FAQs, visit the Mississippi Board of Nursing FAQ page.

Exemption:
New APRNs who have graduated from an accredited program within the last two years are exempt from CE requirements for their first renewal period.

ANCC Accredited 25-Hour Pharmacology CE Package for Nurses and NPs

Stay Certified with the ANCC-Accredited 25-Hour Pharmacology CE Package for Nurses and NPs

To meet American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) certification renewal requirements, many nurses and nurse practitioners seek an ANCC Accredited 25-Hour Pharmacology CE Package for Nurses and NPs. In fact, this comprehensive package provides the essential continuing education needed to stay up-to-date on pharmacology and maintain professional certification.

Moreover, certified nurses and nurse practitioners who are ANCC board accredited must renew every five years. In order to renew a certification, a nurse must complete 75 mandatory continuing education hours, of which 25 must be in pharmacology. The process isn’t necessarily difficult, but it can be time consuming. For nurses and nurse practitioners, one of the more challenging portions of the renewal CE requirements is the 25 hours of required pharmacology content. Consequently, it can be difficult to find sufficient online accredited pharmacology CE courses. This is why Renew Now CE, an accredited provider through the ANCC, P0557, offers an entirely online ANCC Accredited 25-Hour Pharmacology CE Package for Nurses and NPs.

25 Pharmacology CE Hours for ANCC Certification Renewal

To help you meet your continuing education requirements for certification renewal, Renew Now CE’s accredited 25-hour pharmacology package for nurses and nurse practitioners is specifically designed with you in mind.

If you are looking to meet the ANCC’s 25-hour pharmacology requirement for certification renewal, then our online pharmacology CE package is the solution. Whether you are a busy RN or NP, you can benefit from our accredited courses, which offer flexible, self-paced learning to ensure you fulfill your continuing education requirements on your own schedule.

ANCC Certification Renewal

Some important highlights regarding ANCC’s continuing education requirements for renewal:

  1. First and foremost, there are 75 mandatory continuing education hours, of which 25 must be in pharmacology.
  2. Additionally, you can choose one of your certification renewal categories as an additional 75 continuing education hours for a total of 150 continuing education hours.
  3. Furthermore, for the mandatory hours, at least 60 of the 75 must be formally approved hours, i.e., hours from an accredited provider or approver of nursing education, for example, an ANCC approved provider.
  4. Moreover, the hours can also be approved through Joint Accreditation or AMA, continuing medical education (CME) hours.
  5. You can claim credit for a specific course just once. Even if you take a course multiple times in the five-year renewal window, you can only claim credit once.

By maintaining your certification throughout the five-year process and tracking your progress, you can avoid last-minute stress. However, if you wait until your renewal, inputting between 75 and 150 hours of continuing education credit into the ANCC’s website will take a great deal of time. Read our blog post with suggestions on keeping on top of your required CE for ANCC license renewal here: Use a Filing System to Track your CE for ANCC Certification Renewal.

In the event that you do lapse without renewing on time, rest assured that the ANCC has a policy for reactivation. You can find more details in their policy: Certification Renewal Requirements

Renewing your ANCC Nurse Practitioner NP Certification

ANCC NP Renewal Requirements – Finish Efficiently

You must renew your ANCC nurse practitioner (NP) board certification every five years. The process isn’t necessarily difficult, but it can be time consuming. Maintaining your certification throughout the five-year process by tracking your progress is key. If you wait until your renewal and must input between 75 and 150 hours of continuing education credit into the ANCC’s website, it will take a great deal of time.

I’ve been an ANCC certified NP since 2012, so I’m in my third renewal cycle. I’ve found that by using a filing system to keep track of mandatory continuing education hours in addition to chosen renewal requirement categories makes the renewal more seamless.

To avoid retesting, an NP must renew their certification before it lapses and demonstrate proof of completion of the mandatory 75 continuing education hours. Twenty-five of the mandatory hours must be in pharmacology.

Renewing your American Nurses Credentialing Center Nurse Practitioner NP Certification – Using a filing system

You’ll need to input your completed hours into the ANCC’s website. I have found that immediately printing your certificate, putting it into a file folder labeled for the window of your renewal cycle, then inputting these hours to the ANCC’s site, and tracking your total on the outside of the file folder is very helpful in tracking the mandatory hours you’ve completed.

Complete your 25 hours of required pharmacology here: 25 Hours Pharmacology All-Inclusive CE Package

According to the ANCC, if you’re renewing a current, not lapsed license, the steps are as follows:

ANCC Certification renewal eligibility when your certification credential is CURRENT. All requirements must be met within the current 5-year certification period.

  • Hold a current, active RN license in a state or territory of the United States or the professional legally recognized equivalent in another country.
  • For National Healthcare Disaster certificants, hold the same license, registration, certificate, or degree used for initial test eligibility.
  • Hold a current ANCC board certification.
  • Complete the Mandatory 75 continuing education hours. All certificants renewing a CNS or NP certification are required to complete 25 hours of pharmacology as a portion of the mandatory 75 CH.
  • Complete at least one (1) of the eight certification renewal categories in its entirety. (See pages 7-8 for additional information regarding the renewal categories.)
  • Pay the renewal fee.

If you do lapse without renewing on time, the ANCC has a policy for reactivation. You can read about it in their policy: Certification Renewal Requirements

The Eight ANCC Certification Renewal Categories

  1. Continuing Education Hours – 75 hours in the certification specialty. This category can be chosen in addition to the Mandatory 75 Continuing Education Hours.
  2. Academic Credits – Five semester credits or six quarter credits of academic courses in your certification specialty.
  3. Presentations – One or more presentations totaling five (5) clock hours in your certification specialty.
  4. Evidence-Based Practice (EBP), Quality Improvement Project (QI), Publication, or Research.
  5. Preceptor Hours – A minimum of 120 hours as a preceptor for students in an academic program related to your specialty.
  6. Professional Service – Two or more consecutive years of volunteer service during your certification period with an international, national, state, or local healthcare-related organization; accepted volunteer activities include serving on boards of directors, committees, editorial boards, review boards, task forces, and medical missions.
  7. Practice Hours – A minimum of 1,000 practice hours in your certification specialty, completed within five years preceding the date on your renewal application submission. Practice hours are not required to renew your certification.
  8. Test or Portfolio – Sit for and pass the current test.

Continuing Education Hours for ANCC Board Certification Renewal

Some important highlights regarding continuing education requirements:

  • There are 75 mandatory continuing education hours, of which 25 must be in pharmacology.
  • You can choose one of your certification renewal categories as an additional 75 continuing education hours for a total of 150 continuing education hours.
  • For the mandatory hours, at least 60 of the 75 must be formally approved hours, i.e., hours from an accredited provider or approver of nursing education, for example, an ANCC approved provider.
